The funny, heartwarming new romantic comedy from the internationally bestselling author of LAST TANG STANDING
Lucie Yi has tried love – it did not work.

She’s decided that finding Mr Right is a myth, and that finding Mr Right-enough-to-have-children-with is the next best option. So when she meets easy-going Collin Read on a platonic co-parenting website, it finally feels like she has found her version of happily ever after.

But things take a turn for the worst when they move back home to Singapore where her very traditional family and remorseful ex-fiancé await.

With pressure mounting on all sides and her perfect plan unravelling, Lucie has to decide how much she’s willing to sacrifice for a chance at happiness – and maybe, just maybe, love.

Praise for LUCIE YI IS NOT A ROMANTIC:

‘A hilarious and honest novel about a woman living on her own terms’ Balli Kaur Jaswal, author of Erotic Stories for Punjabi Widows

‘Laugh-out-loud funny and unflinchingly honest, LUCIE YI IS NOT A ROMANTIC’ is a love letter to friendship and found family that manages to be head-spinningly romantic while simultaneously burning down the patriarchy ‘Madi Sinha, author of At Least You Have Your Health

‘A sharp, fresh story of finding yourself, and letting love follow. I AM a romantic – and I was rooting for Lucie Yi! ‘ KJ Dell’Antonia

My Review

This is new to me author outside of my normal genre, but I was quite pleased with the read. At the start of the book, I was not sure I was going to like Lucie and while I do not always need to like the characters, I do think it is a requirement for a romantic comedy. But as I learned more about her character, I did grow quite fond of her. Of course there were a few moments that I would equate her to the pregnant version of a bridezilla, but I suspect that was on purpose.

I will say this is heavily billed as a romantic comedy and if that is why you pick it up, you might come up a little disappointed. There are some pretty heavy topics in here including a miscarriage, grief, cheating and infertility issues. Now don’t get me wrong, there are laughs along the way, but what I enjoyed most was the characters and Asian heritage in the book. My main criteria in a romance is am I rooting for the couple and do I want to keep picking it up and continue since most these days end with a HEA so I know kinda how it will end. And I can say both of my needs were met.

While slightly heavier than your average beach read, I think this is a great summer read. I’ll have to track down her first book.

Just a note, on Goodreads, I noticed the author acknowledges the rom com having deep content and possible triggers. Kudos to her for that.
