Libro.fm Announces Their Top 10 Bestselling Audiobooks of 2021

-

Libro.fm Serves as a bridge between digital content and independent bookstores. They partner with 1,500+ bookstores, mostly in North America. Readers can buy their audio books through the site, and some of the profit will go to the indie book store of their choice.

Every year, Libro.fm announces the best-selling audiobooks of the year, which are always a good place to find guaranteed listening. (See the 2020 list for more recommendations.) This year’s list includes literary fiction, memoirs, and articles.

1) Crying at H Mart By Michelle Sauner, narrated by the author

The first book on this list should come as no surprise: it has appeared in both Barnes & Noble’s top books for 2021 and Amazon’s books. It’s a memoir about mourning and food, and a bookseller at Blue Cypress Books said, “This book made me sob and starve at the same time. Perfect reading.”

2) The last thing he told me By Laura Dave, narrated by Rebecca Luuman

Choosing Reese’s book club (and probably chosen by many other book clubs!) And a New York Times bestseller, this mystery follows Hannah, a woman whose husband, Owen, disappears and leaves a secret note. Hannah and her teenage stepdaughter – who wants nothing to do with her – need to connect Owen’s past to try to find out where he went.

3) Malibu rises By Taylor Jenkins Reed, narrated by Julia Willen

Last by the author of Daisy Jones and the Six and Seven-year-old of Evelyn Hugo, It takes place in Malibu in the 80s, starring four famous brothers who make a party that changes their lives forever. A book seller at Book are Awesome assures that it is “a perfect and suspenseful beat from the first page!”

4) The four winds By Kristin Hannah, narrated by Julia Whelan

5) People we meet on vacation By Emily Henry, narrated by Julia Willen

6) Clara and the sun By Kazuo Ishiguro, narrated by Sura Siu

7) Anthropocene Review By John Green, narrated by the author

8) Broken horses By Brandy Carlisle, narrated by the author

9) How the word is conveyed By Clint Smith, narrated by the author

10) Apples never fall By Lian Moriarty, narrated by Caroline Lee

Authors of popular book clubs like Kristin Hanna, Liane Moriarty and Taylor Jenkins Reed make up the bulk of this list. One notable change since 2020 is that there is only one anti-racist book on the list, suggesting that those same anti-racist book clubs may not yet meet a year after the 2020 Black Lives Matter demonstrations.

Congratulations to Julia Willen, who told three of the top 10 audio books of the year! She has read over 400 audio books In her career and was selected as one of AudioFile Magazine’s Golden Voices as well as a Grammy nominee for her audio book work, so pay attention to her name while scrolling through the audio book options.
