Brenda Patch and illustrated by Peter Trimarco
“Now what?” A question we have all said and heard and heard from children of all ages and even from us adults. “Now what?” Is a picture book of children’s stories written by a team of women and husband Brenda Patch and Peter Trimarco who shares and tells a story of diversity. Lizzie’s main character is a little girl, who seems to like to stay busy as you will see when you read the book. Lizzie also has a pet dog that she constantly plays with from one activity to another and meets a new friend.
Brenda wrote this story as if it were a song or even a song from the rhymes she invented that they are surprising, which is a good surprise because it made the story fun to read. Peter drew the pictures that seemed almost ‘dreamy’ to me. The pictures to me seemed only slightly muted in some of them. The words and pictures explain what it means to be friends whether human or animal. My favorite pages were these. I loved that he read “Fantasy” especially how Peter drew the word. A few more pictures I liked were when Lizzie was looking in her closet for something to do and I saw a set of flutes, which I think showed some culture to Lizzie, because this tool is a little unusual to find in a kids closet, but interesting. I also loved what the writer and artist wrote and drew on it after the rain meter with the remnants of the game of paws and paw prints of the animals. Quite a story saved could get a fair number of lessons to use, as in character building.
