Book starts on Fridays
Does it feel like Thanksgiving has crept up on us this year? My husband just sent me a message to say he got a turkey and left it in the fridge to thaw because it is frozen solid and I though, “what the hell? Thanksgiving in a few weeks!” Then I remembered it was next week! Ugh!
I love Thanksgiving. We’re only four this year, not a huge crowd like in years past. But I still love it. We’ll have too much food, but it’s okay because we all love leftovers.
What is your favorite Thanksgiving dish? The mashed potatoes of my potatoes, even if it’s really boring! And a pie, of course!
For those of you who do not live in the US, I’m sorry you do not celebrate Thanksgiving because it is such a pleasant holiday and is the gateway to Christmas!
But we have another week, which means we have a week to share opening sentences here at Book Beginnings on Fridays. What are you reading this week? Share the first sentence (or something like that) with all of us.
The beginning of my book
I’m reading something fun. I only read amusing books during the holidays. Nothing serious from now until 2022.
Jack Richer caught the last sun of summer in a small town on the shores of Maine, and then, like the birds in the sky above him, he began his long migration south.
– Time has passed By Lee Child. Are you a fan of Lee Child? Creature Reacher?
Time has passed Is the 23rd novel in Lee Child’s Jack Richer series. I read the first book in the series, Killed a floor, Back in 2004, when I was preparing for a Mystery Writers conference where Child was the keynote speaker. Like many lawyers, I had fantasies about writing mysterious novels. My fantasies did not last more than one conference. but Killed a floor Blow up my socks. It was great. It’s still my favorite book by Reacher.
My enthusiasm for the series waned. The plots became thinner as the violence increased. Child also seems bored with them. He wrote one more book later Time has passed Called blue Moon Then team up with his brother to tag a team on two more. But he announced that he was passing the series on to his brother. I’ll read blue Moon And call it good.

My 56th Friday
M Time has passed:
Again Mark fell silent.
“He does not mean that,” Patty said. “He’s angry, that’s all.”
It might be a little scary for me, but I’m determined to finish it. I read it with my ears, so if things get too awful, I’ll concentrate on my beautiful Thanksgiving dishes!
