The horizon seemed to stretch forever, even though she knew the continent was beyond the sea, but at that moment, she felt like she was the only person in the world. Suddenly, a large weight rose from it. It felt as if the sea had taken with it its part which in recent months had known nothing but pain and sorrow and freed it from it. A whimper escaped, but Lily covered her mouth, trying to suppress the noise. She should not cry, but perhaps those were just tears of joyful gratitude. After all this time, maybe she will finally be able to live a fearless life.
Time seemed to pass at his own pace. The changing position of the sun in the sky is the only indication that the day is advancing. How long had she been standing there looking at the blue water below? It’s definitely time to go back to the mansion. Lily took a few steps when she heard a horse approaching. Her pulse accelerated, and she froze in place. Who would have come here, so far from anywhere? Should she try to hurry to the peace of the forest, or wait?
No, she was tired of running and knew there was nothing to fear. The men who chased her did not know she had fled to the other side of the country. She waited, and after a moment, a horse and rider came to the eye, making their way up the hill on which she stood.
The man looked young, perhaps around his age. He wore a long black riding coat, tails bouncing behind him at his horse’s pace of walking. His hat hid hair, but she could see it was darker in color. Overall, she tended to call him handsome. She saw all this in the few seconds before he lifted his horse before her.
About Laura Shiffley
Laura Shiffley is an indie writer who writes Victorian historical romance with dark and pensive heroes and strong-willed and forceful heroines. Her love for romance began the first time she “borrowed” one of her mother’s books and became addicted. While she reads all the genres, the supernormal romance is a second close to historical.
When she’s not writing, Laura enjoys spending time with her husband and children. She had never met a piece of chocolate or a glass of wine she did not like. Her third addiction is Starbucks, and the endless need for caffeine to keep her creative juices flowing. She prefers movies over TV, too much commitment in time, but loves to spend time outdoors including hiking and rafting.
Her greatest joy is to move readers to a different time and place with her library, and make her readers fall in love with characters just like her. Laura’s email is always open for comments or questions at email@example.com. Don’t forget to follow her on Facebook at TheLauraShipley for updates and other fun stuff.
