New York for Kids
Tour guides for Dorling Kindersley
presenter: I found this tour guide from 2000 while browsing the children’s collection at my public library a few days ago and … a lot has changed in New York over the last 21 years! For example, the public telephones mentioned in this guide are now $ 1 for a three-minute call and only four of them remain in New York. Subway tokens were phased out in 2003. Time and Plague closed many restaurants listed in the Useful Places section of the guide. And yes, the biggest notable problem with this book right now is its dual-page feature at the World Landscape Trade Center. This is why we often check out our tour guide collections! I have been working in this branch for 3 months now and the sad thing is that the record of this book shows that it has indeed been distributed in the last year. At worst, this WTC page might have proved deeply traumatic for Patron, and at best, it made our branch look loose and out of date. I am really embarrassed this book has remained in our collection for 21 years without anyone marking it!
Holly: Good catch! These Dorling Kindersley travel books are amazing … when they’re from this decade.
