How long should a beginner's book review be?

For most blogs and newsletters, 400 to 800 words is a comfortable starting range. Short social posts can be 100 to 200 words. Pick a length that fits the platform and say everything that matters without padding.

Should I include spoilers in my review?

Avoid spoilers unless your review is clearly labeled for readers who have already finished the book. Mention that you are discussing key moments so readers can choose whether to keep reading.

What if I did not finish the book?

Be upfront about it. Explain how far you got and why you stopped, then share what you did read. Some readers find these partial reviews useful, especially with longer or denser books.

Can I review a book I did not enjoy?

Yes. Honest, specific criticism is one of the most useful kinds of review. Focus on what did not work for you and why, rather than dismissing the book as a whole.

How do I find my own reviewing voice?

Write the way you speak when explaining a book to a curious friend. Read your drafts aloud, cut filler, and let your natural rhythm show. Your voice sharpens the more reviews you finish.
